Amul Haldi Ice Cream - Immunity Booster or Fear Fad

Immunity Booster or Fear Fad
Amul Haldi
Rohan Bhatt – FoodieByHeart – Reviewing @Amul_India product – Amul Haldi Ice Cream

The Ingredients
According to the packaging, the ingredients in this product are as follows:
• Milk Solids – Essential for any ice cream, and in the case of Amul made from real milk (unlike most other Frozen desserts which use a mix of milk solids + vegetable fat)
• Sugar – The integral sweetener here both for increasing the shelf life of the product and giving the signature ice cream-y sweetness to the product
• Turmeric - his bright yellow, bitter spice has also been used for years as an anti-inflammatory in treating limb related disorders and it is this high concentration of curcumin, which gives turmeric its distinctive color and also makes it an effective immunity booster. Also, the curcumin has been shown to be a anti-depressant and mood enhancer so the same people who feel that their mood is ruined just by the mention of Haldi ice cream, might have a different opinion when they actually try it. Just like mothers and their haldi doodh.
• Honey – Natural sweetener and immunity booster as it is an antioxidant, rich in Phytonutrients (a plant derived compound that shields us with its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties). Also, a brilliant cough suppressant which helps us in building a strong defense against cough that is like a best friend of Covid-19
• Dates – Off the chart nutrition filled super dry fruit, almost 5% concentration in the recipe. Rich in vitamins, high concentration of anti-oxidants like Phenolic acid that is proven to be a powerful with its anti-inflammatory properties.
• Almonds – Nutty Nutrient delivery system can be the technical term used to define almonds. This amazing nutrient rich nut has it all: fiber, proteins, fat, vitamin E, Manganese, Magnesium and most importantly… It packs a punch when it comes to a crunch. Amazing texture.  The anti-oxidant super power of this is phytic acid, which helps it to bind the other occurring ingredients to retain good properties and healthy fats, fiber, protein, magnesium and vitamin E helps it to be on the top spot.
• Cashews – Lovely concentration of flavor molecules, fat, zinc and anti-oxidant properties that fight with inflammation and boost our immunity.
• Black Pepper - Black pepper contains an active compound - piperine that has been shown to decrease inflammation, increase nutrient absorption rate and aids in pain relief in general.
• Other emulsifiers, Stabilizers etc (Which are essential to bring about a packaged product to be put on the shelf… Not naturally occurring)

Product review
Real Milk... Real Ice Cream... Real Haldi

It is really easy to comment on an ice cream from the point of view of a food reviewer in generic sense but I will talk like a food critic.

Firstly, the good things. I am a sucker for strong ingredient driven flavors but the first thing that comes through when you take a spoonful of this magnificent ice cream is the flavor of Turmeric. Just like the haldi doodh that we used to hate to consume during our childhoods. Well, the first unpleasant taste is the only bad thing about this ice cream I am telling you as the aftertaste gives you the kick of dates, the nuttiness of the almonds and cashews with the hint of black pepper and the mysterious aroma of honey. This is the magic of Haldi by @amul_india

My honest suggestion for this product will be that it could have done wonders if one more amazing healthy ingredient that is native to India and a proven for cough and sore throat relief was added to this amazing recipe. Yes, you guessed it right – Ginger! But I managed to work my way around it by grating some fresh ginger into my second cup after consuming the first one. I have already consumed 5 of these magnificent beauties.
.
Tag / forward to your friends who you want to try this ice cream.
