‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ – the chant every devotee chants during the 10-day Ganesh festival across India echoes in our hearts and minds long after. The complete chant that originated in Marathwada goes like this : “गणपति बप्पा मोरया, पुढ़चा वर्षी लॉकर या।” (Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhcha Varshi Loukar Ya). Ganpati – the name used for Lord Ganesha is a Sanskrit word meaning – a combination of Sanskrit words "gana" and "pati". Gana (गण) means a group of people – in this case humans and pati (पति) means lord or master.  These are the words that literally translate into the fact that Lord Ganesha is the people's lord or one of the most loved deities from the majestic and powerful family of Shiva and Parvati.  Bappa is a word that says father or lord – a way of respectfully addressing Lord Ganesha who is the father

A bite of History and Culture, the home kitchen revolution of 2020

Image
Since the Pandemic, most of us have been stuck with things that we didn't know we won't like. Lack of activities and things to do, inability to go out, socialize and spend time with friends.  . Many things changed in the pandemic but one side effect of this situation is the most awesome thing that could happen, I call it the rise of home kitchens. And as the title of this post suggests, it's a bite of history and culinary traditions that moves from mother to children like the Guru - Shishya parampara.  . The annual Ganesh Chaturthi and festival celebrates Lord Ganesha who is revered as the God of New Beginnings and the Remover of Obstacles as well as the god of wisdom and intelligence. . I take the opportunity to talk about one such brilliant new beginning by Hema Patel - a brilliant 60 something home-maker who just turned towards the route of her entrepreneurial journey with her start-up "Food62" . Hema aunty has been cooking almost all he

Being Aatma Nirbhar - Independence Day Post

Independent and Self Sufficient . . Today we complete 73 years as an Independent country I would like to post something on my experience as an independent contractor of services that has remained self sufficient for 13 years. . I have been away from some of the most weird things that I see all around now a days. And I propose the following steps for you too if you want to be truly independent (स्वतंत्र) and self sufficient (आत्मनिर्भर) . Freedom from laziness . Freedom from complaining attitude . Freedom from wrongful actions . Freedom from falsehood . Freedom from inaction . Freedom from convenient criticism . Freedom from bickering . Freedom from depending on others . Freedom from comforting inactivity . Freedom from saying and not doing . Freedom from shortcuts . Freedom from sheep mentality . Freedom from poor copying . Freedom from bad implementation . Freedom from injustice . Freedom from selfishness . Freedom from derivative originality . . This might seem like a ran

Amul Haldi Ice Cream - Immunity Booster or Fear Fad

Immunity Booster or Fear Fad Amul Haldi  Rohan Bhatt – FoodieByHeart – Reviewing @Amul_India product – Amul Haldi Ice Cream   The Ingredients According to the packaging, the ingredients in this product are as follows: • Milk Solids – Essential for any ice cream, and in the case of Amul made from real milk (unlike most other Frozen desserts which use a mix of milk solids + vegetable fat) • Sugar – The integral sweetener here both for increasing the shelf life of the product and giving the signature ice cream-y sweetness to the product • Turmeric - his bright yellow, bitter spice has also been used for years as an anti-inflammatory in treating limb related disorders and it is this high concentration of curcumin, which gives turmeric its distinctive color and also makes it an effective immunity booster. Also, the curcumin has been shown to be a anti-depressant and mood enhancer so the same people who feel that their mood is ruined just by the mention of Haldi ice cream, might

Forget Love, I'd rather fall in Chocolate

A balanced diet is one with a chocolate in both my hands and more in my mouth... . I mean who doesn't love chocolates? Milk, Dark, White, Sweet, Bitter, Bitter and Sweet, Salted, Caramel infused... Coated over random stuff that we love to eat? So a dear friend and a fantastic Home baker friend of mine @utsavib who already runs her home based baking business by the name of @sugarrush.utsavi just recently started a hand crafted chocolate brand of hers which is built around the incomprehensible love and passion for chocolates . Firstly, the products she makes are carefully tried and tested (sometimes by me too) and I can be a very sharp critic to food businesses owing to the fact that my crazy love and passion for food is relentless and undying in itself.  . So, Utsavi happens to see me and asks if I can try out some of her products just to get a feedback on the technique that she had to master without the use of costly sophisticated equipment but an indigenously designed

So I was craving for some Lebanese Falafels and due to the corona virus situation, the regular places we used to go for shopping of grocery and essentials was all topsy and turvy. . I try and cook every day as cooking relaxes my nerves so I tend to do as much as I can in the kitchen but ofcourse, a mother is the ultimate authority in a home kitchen. I am no different, I still get smacked for putting too little salt or too much pepper etc. . Momma dearest had made a quintessential Gujarati subzi of Doodhi Chana Nii Daal nu shaak (Lauki / Ghiya aur Chane Daal kii subzi) in the morning for lunch.  . So we decided on the falafels for the evening and I had attempted a pahadi tamaatar kii chutney earlier last month which went a little off in terms of the taste as the

Baked Rasogulla and Baked Cham Cham at Mudia Nii Mithaio - Nanpura, Surat The city of Surat has been one with the richest culinary amalgamation and has enthralled and encapsulated the imaginations of not one but many cultures and traditions.. Be it the Portuguese and Dutch influence on the foods and culinary techniques to the Nawabi and Awadhi influence over the meat preparation and eating patterns in the city. One such amazing influence that less people know about is the connection of Surat with Kolkata. . . Both the cities of Surat and Kolkata have been predominantly trading hubs and a lot of Marwari traders have made both the cities their home and showered it with patronage and made it prosperous for a couple of centuries now. History has seen how time and travel promote cross breeding of cuisines, so the tastes and preferences of people had a considerable influence over each other. One such culinary exchange led to a lot of migrant Bengalis and Odiyas to come to the port c
